ECE. 212 CHILD, FAMILY, AND COMMUNITY (3)
Hours/semester: 48-54 lecture. Recommended: Eligibility for ENGL 846 or ESOL 400, or equivalent.
An overview of contemporary family and community issues influencing childhood. Interactions among the child, family, school, peers, media, and the community are explored. The course focuses on the socialization process, including cultural and ethnic diversity, parenting styles, gender roles, and the role of the community. Community resources available to children and families are also covered. Transfer credit: UC; CSU (D3).

NOTE: The Teacher Track Learning Community includes a PAID stipend at the Skyline College Child Development Laboratory Center. Students interested in this Learning Community should enroll in ECE. 331 TE and contact Kristina Brower, Program Services Coordinator at brower@smccd.edu or by phone at (650) 738-4304 to discuss internship/course scheduling options. You will be added to the Teacher Track cohort and then be able to enroll in the Teacher Track cohort courses. Teacher Track Learning Community students enroll in at least two of the four Teacher Track courses offered (ECE 201, ECE 210, ECE 211, ECE 212) and ECE 331 Role of the Teacher (CRN 95565) which meets once a month (8/16, 9/6, 10/4, 11/1, 12/6) during the Fall 2019 semester.
