MATH 800 Just-in-Time Support for Elementary Probability and Statistics

A review of the core prerequisite skills, competencies, and concepts needed in statistics. Intended for students who are concurrently enrolled in MATH 200, Elementary Probability and Statistics, at College of San Mateo. Topics include concepts from arithmetic, pre-algebra, elementary and intermediate algebra, and descriptive statistics that are needed to understand the basics of college-level statistics. Concepts are taught through the context of descriptive data analysis. Additional emphasis is placed on solving and graphing linear equations and modeling with linear functions.

Multiple measures, including high school transcripts, are now being used to help determine proper placement of students into Mathematics courses. The Math Placement Test is recommended but not required of all entering freshmen to assist with placement. Students transferring to College of San Mateo with credit in college Mathematics can use their transcripts to assist with placement, bypassing the need for placement testing.

Prerequisites are listed in the descriptions of Mathematics courses in the catalog and the web schedule. Unless otherwise indicated, a grade of C or higher is required for all prerequisite courses. Prerequisites may be met by showing proof of satisfactory completion of an equivalent course at a post-secondary institution.
