READ 808  - Basic Phonic Skills

READ 808 BASIC PHONIC SKILLS (3)

Pass/No Pass or letter grade option. Minimum of 48 lecture hours plus 16 hours by arrangement per term.

Description: Study of basic speech sounds and practice in techniques for reading unknown words. Review of dictionary symbols, diacritical marks, syllabication, and fundamental phonic generalizations. Designed for native speakers and higher-level ESL students. Students are strongly advised to enroll concurrently in READ 825 or higher level reading couse and/or ESL 828 or ENGL 828 or higher level writing course. (May be taken twice for a maximum of 6 units.) (Units do not apply toward AA/AS degree.)
